Takuhon is the technology of printing or copying that originated in China 2000 years ago. In Takuhon we are able to reproduce an image of exactly the same size, unlike photography and printing. It is difficult to perfectly copy the uneven images. Have you ever placed paper over a coin when you were a child to make a rubbing with a pencil? That is superb Takuhon (dry rubbing)!
We need the Takuhon rubbing of old tombstones in China to study the ancient scripts. Takuhon also provides a detailed and precise record of ancient images on tiles and mirrors which can be damaged during excavation to enableus to save this knowledge for future generation.
You are someone who enjoys Takuhon. You visit monuments inscribed with a poem and stone tablets inscribed with images. And while you are rubbing the image you also absorb a feeling of history and literature. You take back an image and a feeling and have fun making a panel or scroll from your rubbing. It is a very quiet and peaceful hobby.
(Attention) Takuhon is not Gyotaku (fish print)!
